Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin that is stored in many tissues throughout the body, but the adrenal glands contain the highest concentration.
Water-soluble vitamins are used by the body in 2-4 days or excreted and need to be replenished daily with food sources or supplements.
Stresses such as infection & fever, burns, exposure to cold, physical trauma, fractures, high altitude and radiation, all require larger doses of vitamin C.
Anti-inflammatory: for health problems associated with general inflammation because of its anti-histamine activity, including
pollen and other microorganisms & irritants, and/or decreased resistance.
Antioxidant: functions as a potent antioxidant, thus helping to limit damage to the body from free radicals. It also enhances the antioxidant activity of vitamin E.
GI health/Detox: can help the body rid itself of heavy metal toxins like mercury, lead, cadmium and nickel.
Vitamin C is a natural laxative and may help with constipation problems.
Infection/Immunity: increases white blood cell production, levels of antibodies and production of interferon
to produce a positive immunological response to a wide range of viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.
Vitamin C is commonly used for the prevention and treatment of
the common cold and flu syndrome. Health studies show that Vit C supplementation results in fewer colds, fewer days of infection, and a significantly shorter duration of severe symptoms.
Respiratory health: Smoking depletes the body of Vitamin C. Two recent studies suggest that Vitamin C may help to reduce the risk of lung cancer in smokers as well as damage from exposure to second-hand smoke in non-smokers.
